FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Led by junior Harmanprit Kaur's career-best third place finish, the Georgia State women's golf team open the spring with a season-best fourth-place finish at the Amelia Island Collegiate at Amelia National Golf Club on Tuesday.
In rainy and windy conditions that saw scores increase significantly, Kaur shot a final round 5-over 77 to finish at 4-over par for the 54-hole event placing just one stroke out of first.
Georgia State shot a final round 318 to finish at 52-over par after no team broke 300 in the final round.
“Overall I am proud of the way our team competed all week,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “Today didn't go as we wanted it to, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. In tougher conditions, we just could not get the birdies to drop. However, a fourth-place finish in a solid 16 team field is a good way to start the spring and can give us some momentum moving forward.”
Sophomore Chloe Howard shot a final round 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for 27th at 14-over par. Freshman Maria Blasco added a 9-over 81 to finish at 16-over par and tied for 30th.
Sophomore Petra Duran also shot 81 on Tuesday to finish at 19-over par and tied for 45th. Freshman Emma Berlin rounded out the line-up with an 82 to tie for 51st in the 86-player field at 21-over par.
North Florida shot a final round 306 to finish at 30-over par and claim an 11-stroke win. Florida Gulf Coast finished in second place at 41-over par, with Marshall coming in third at 43-over. The Panthers were in fourth place at 52-over par with Sam Houston State rounding out the top five at 55-over.
Florida Gulf Coast's Laura Edmonds defeated North Florida's Mindy Herrick in a playoff to earn low medalist honors at 3-over par. Kaur finished in third at 4-over par while Marshall's Shelby Brauckmuller and Morehead State's Bridget Connolly tied for fourth at 5-over par.
Georgia State will next travel to Wallace, N.C., for the River Landing Classic March 4-5.
