Panthers Best Samford, Split Doubleheader

*GSU defeated Samford 4-0 in the second match of a doubleheader Sunday evening in Auburn.

*The Panthers will battle UCF and Denver in Orlando next week.

 

AUBURN, Ala.- Georgia State women's tennis split a pair of matches in Auburn on Sunday afternoon. GSU (2-5) fell in early match to Auburn before bouncing back to sweep Samford 4-0 in the nightcap.

In the afternoon match GSU was defeated 5-0 by the Tigers. Freshmen Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanescu held second set leads, but their matches were left unfinished after Auburn secured the victory.

Coach Leatu's squad would rebound in the evening match with a 4-0 beating of Samford. It was the first sweep of the season for GSU. The Panthers took quick wins on courts two and three to clinch the doubles point.

 

In singles action Chivu, Damira Muminovic, and Daniela Ramirez won on courts one, two, and three respectively to give GSU the 4-0 victory. Stanescu, Lara Vovk, and Anastasia Grosheva each led in unfinished singles matches.

 

The Panthers will head to Orlando for a pair of matches next week. GSU will face UCF on Thursday before meeting Denver for a neutral site match on Friday afternoon.
