MACON, Ga. – Led by top 25 finishes from Harmanprit Kaur and Emma Berlin the Georgia State women's golf team finished in a tie for seventh at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship on Tuesday.
The Panthers shot a final round 312 to finish the 54-hole event at 58-over par and just outside the top five.
Kaur recorded her best finish of the fall shooting a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 18th at 10-over par. Berlin also earned a top 25 finish shooting a 77 in the final round to tie for 21st at 11-over par.
"The golf course proved to be very challenging, but our Panthers did an excellent job of never giving up," head coach Jessica Steward said. "Did we leave some strokes out there? Sure. But this was a strong field and we held on until the very end to finish inside the top half. That's a very respectable showing.
"I'm so happy to see Harman play a solid tournament. Especially today, 75 was a good score with the pins as tough as they were. Top 20 is a great accomplishment here. Emma just barely missed out on a spot up there, but she had a weekend to be proud of also. She wasn't hitting her wedges as well as she wanted, however she still pieced together some solid scores."
Junior Chloe Howard added a final round 81 to finish tied for 36th at 18-over, while sophomore Maria Blasco shot an 80 to tie for 48th at 20-over par. Freshman Jenny Marston rounded out the line-up with an 80 to tie for 55th at 22-over par.
Freshman Courtney Lewis, making her GSU debut and playing as an individual shot an 87 on Tuesday to finish in 81st place at 35-over par.
Following a 2-under par 286, Charlotte cruised to the team title finish at 3-under par. Host Mercer finished in second-place at 11-over par, with Georgia Southern coming in third-place at 30-over par. Seton Hall came in fourth-place at 34-over par while Troy rounded out the top five at 39-over par.
Georgia Southern's Ella Ofstedahl and Charlotte's Cecilie Finne-Ipsen shared low medalist honors at 7-under par. Mercer's Laila Hrindova came in third place at 3-under par, while teammate Payton Schanen and Seton Hall's Mia Kness finished in a tie for fourth place at 2-under par.
Following a four tournament fall season, Georgia State will open the spring season at the Amelia Island Collegiate Feb. 17-18, at Amelia National Golf Club.
