Fort Myers, Fla.- Georgia State women's tennis dropped the season opener 4-1 to Florida Gulf Coast Friday morning in Fort Myers. The Panthers lone point came via a 6-0, 6-0 win in number three singles by Daniela Ramirez.
Eva Chivu and Damira Muminović provided a spark for the Panthers winning 7-5 on court two over Madison Gallegos and Sofia Perez. However, the Eagles would win on courts one and three to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Ramirez started her senior season off on the right foot with a quick two set win in which she did not concede a game. After dropping sets in the one and four spot respectively, freshmen Eva Chivu (6-0) and Andreea Stanescu (6-1) would win their second sets forcing a tiebreaker. Chivu would fall in 7-2 in the tiebreaker giving FGCU the clinching point.
Muminović, who dropped her opening singles set 7-6 and Stanescu would not finish their matches.
Georgia State is back on the courts tomorrow for a neutral site match with Cornell. The Panthers and Big Red will meet at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Myers
