GULF SHORES, Ala. – With four golfers among the top 15, Georgia State will enter the final round of the Bama Beach Bash in second-place following a second-round 6-over 294.
Sophomore Harmanprit Kaur shot a 1-over 73 on Saturday and stands in fourth-place at 1-over par with 18 holes to play. Kaur is just five strokes off the lead entering the final round.
Georgia State is 15-over for the tournament and trails only Sun Belt foe South Alabama. The Panthers have a 20-stroke lead over third-place West Florida.
“Really excited about the way our team is playing right now,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We made a bunch of birdies today and made only a few mistakes. It is the type of golf that we need to play if we want to accomplish our goals this spring.”
Freshman Chloe Howard is tied for sixth at 3-over par following a second-round 74 that saw her make three birdies. Senior Paula Zabarte stands in 11th-place at 6-over par following a 2-over 74.
Sophomore Grace Choi rebounded nicely with a 1-over 73 on Saturday and moved into 35th at 17-over par. Redshirt-junior Emily Royer rounded out the line-up with an 82 and is tied for 25th at 14-over par.
Junior Jemima Gregson who was competing as an individual shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 13th at 9-over par. Senior Yasemin Sari, also competing as an individual is tied for 25th at 14-over par following a round of 77 on Saturday.
Co-host South Alabama will enter the final round with a 19-stroke lead at 4-under par following a second-straight 286. Georgia State is in second-place at 15-over par, with West Florida in third at 35-over par. Southern Illinois is in fourth-place at 39-over par, with UAB rounding out the top five at 49-over par.
South Alabama's Siti Shaari leads the field at 4-under par entering the final round. Teammate Julie Hovland is in second-place at 2-under par, with Alabama State's Chanelle Avaricio in third at even par. Kaur stands in fourth-place at 1-over, with South Alabama's Madison Connell in fifth at 2-over par.
Georgia State will be paired with South Alabama and West Florida for Round 3 going off Hole No. 1 starting at 10:20 a.m. ET on Sunday. Live scoring of the event can be found at Golfstat.com.
Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will return home to host the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., March 25-27.
