Coulaud Clinches, Panthers Finish Third at FSU Spring Invite

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Georgia State men's tennis team defeated North Florida Sunday afternoon in its final match of the FSU Spring Invite, finishing third overall. The 4-0 win was the team's second sweep in two days.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 2-1 after the first weekend of competition.

GSU went ahead of the Ospreys quickly, earning the doubles point in the third set. Andrei Andrukhou and Quentin Coulaud defeated Jefta Kecic and Nilo Duarte at the No. 1 position, but North Florida split doubles play as Kevin Huynh and Giles Hussey fell 6-3. Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Duarte clinched the point with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 position.

The Panthers fared well in singles play, winning the first set on five of the six courts. Andukhou was able to give GSU a 2-0 lead in straight sets, defeating Kecic 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Huynh edged the team within one at the No. 5 position, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Joe Ellis.

Coulaud clinched the match at the No. 2 position, defeating Sahil Deshmukh 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the tiebreaker set. The final matches were suspended due to the clinch.

“I'm very proud of the team in how they bounced back today after a tough match yesterday,” head coach Jonathan Wolff said. “That was a tough team in North Florida who fought until the end and made it hard for us to close it out. Thankfully Quentin, who played great all weekend, stepped up and provided our team with the clinching point. Now our focus turns to Oregon and Portland in preparing for a challenging road test.”

Georgia State will return to the court next weekend to face Oregon and Portland on the road.
