ATLANTA- The No. 37 Georgia State men's tennis team defeated rival Georgia Southern Friday afternoon in a 4-1 victory on Senior Day. Junior Andrei Andrukhou clinched the match, his third of the season.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 13-6 overall (3-1 SBC) while the Eagles fell to 15-11 overall (0-3 SBC).
Georgia State continued its strong doubles play, clinching the doubles point in the top two matches. Sebastian Acuna and Jack MacFarlane made easy work of JC Alcala and Santiago Suarez with a 6-0 win at the No. 2 match, while Zackery Kennedy and Andrei Andrukhou defeated Christian Kerrigan and Dani Casablancas 6-4 at the No. 1 match.
Acuna kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Suarez. Kennedy put the Panthers up 3-0 at the No. 1 match, defeating Alcala 6-4, 6-0. Jannis Koeke fell 6-0, 6-2 to Stefano Di Aloy to give the Eagles their lone point of the day, but Andrukhou clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eddie Landin. Andrukhou is now tied with Felipe Jaworski for match-clinching points this season.
The Panthers will return to the court for the first of their final three regular season matches at Old Dominion on April 8.
