ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 24 Georgia Tech Friday afternoon in the team's final road match before opening the home schedule against North Florida on Saturday.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 4-3, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-2.
Georgia State started off slow, dropping the doubles point to Tech. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar defeated Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Cole Fiegel and Daniel Yun clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud. Zackery Kennedy and Jannis Koeke's match went unfinished due to the clinch.
In singles play, Kennedy put up a fight in the No. 1 match but was defeated 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 by No. 9 Christopher Eubanks in the tie-breaker set. The Yellow Jackets went up 3-0 with Fiegel's 6-1, 6-3 win over Jack MacFarlane in the No. 6 match. Coulaud earned the lone point for the Panthers, defeating Chris Yun 6-3, 6-4.
Daniel Yun clinched the match for Georgia Tech when Acuna fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the tie-breaker set. Koeke and Andrukhou's matches went unfinished due to the clinch.
The Panthers will be back on the court Saturday when they North Florida at 1 p.m. at Piedmont Park to open their home schedule. Admission is free to the public.
