Panthers Defend Home Court Against Samford

Georgia State kept its winning streak alive against Samford Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers rolled over the Bulldogs with a 7-0 victory. All six GSU players registered singles victories with four of the six ending in straight sets.

* Freshman Arina Taluyenko grinded out a win to remain unbeaten in singles play this season. She defeated Samford's Ellie Gerlach 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 6-0 on the season. Junior Kristin Rehse overpowered Savannah Wood 6-2, 6-1 to get to 4-0 on the year.

* Winners of four consecutive matches, GSU will host SEC foe Mississippi State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Park.


ATLANTA – The Georgia State women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (4-3, 0-1) defeated the Bulldogs (5-3) in all but one doubles match on the day to win their fourth straight match.

To start the day, GSU swept Samford in all six singles matches and registered four of the six wins in straight sets.

Playing in the No. 1 spot, junior Kristin Rehse overpowered Savannah Wood 6-2, 6-1 stay unbeaten in singles play. In the No. 2 position, freshman standout Arina Taluyenko outlasted Samford's Ellie Gerlach 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Damira Muminovic tallied her third victory on the year with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Annika Kepp. Freshman teammate Anastasia Grosheva also notched her third win with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 win against Grace Jennings.

Lara Vovk bettered her singles record to 2-3 and clinched the match for Georgia State after a straight-set victory over Samford's Arianna Beltrame. Veteran Daniela Ramirez also continued GSU's winning ways with a straight-set win of her own.

The Panthers took the doubles point on Rehse and Muminovic's 6-3 result against Elsa Pool and Hepp.

Taluyenko and Tarani Kamoe picked up a 6-2 doubles win over Gerlach and Jennings.

GSU will get back on the court at Piedmont Park this Saturday at 2 p.m. versus SEC foe Mississippi State. Admission is free of charge for all fans.
