MOBILE, Ala.- The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 6-1 at South Alabama Sunday afternoon in the team's opening weekend of conference play.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 6-5 (1-1 Sun Belt) while the Jaguars improved to 9-2 (1-0 Sun Belt).
Georgia State dropped the doubles point in in the first two matches, with Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud's match going unfinished due to the clinch. Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou were defeated 6-3 in the No. 2 match by Olivier Gringas and Clement Marzol. The Jaguars clinched the point when Zackery Kennedy and Jannis Koeke fell 7-6 to Juan Cruz Soria and Loic Cloes.
In singles play, Andrukhou fell 6-0, 6-2 to Marzol in the No. 3 match. GSU went down 3-0 when Cloes defeated Jaworski 6-2, 7-5. Soria clinched the match for South Alabama with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Koeke.
Gringas defeated Coulaud 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 4 match. Jack MacFarlane earned the lone point for GSU, defeating Lucas Gonzalez 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Kennedy was the final Panther to finish, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to No. 50 Tuki Jacobs.
The Panthers will be back on the court for the ETSU Shootout in Johnson City, Tenn., on Feb. 18-19.
