WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 2 Wake Forest Saturday afternoon in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 4-2, while the Demon Deacons improved to 5-0.
GSU dropped the doubles point in the first two matches, with Zackery Kennedy and Jannis Koeke falling 6-1 to No. 1 Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim.Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou fell to Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev 6-3 to secure the point for the Demon Deacons. Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud's match went unfinished due to the Wake Forest clinch.
In the No. 1 match, Kennedy fell 6-0, 6-0 to No. 1 Petros Chrysochos to put the Demon Deacons up 2-0. Coulaud was the next Panther to finish, falling 6-4, 6-0 to No. 21 Seraphim. In the No. 2 match, Wake Forest clinched the match when No. 4 Mansouri defeated Koeke 6-3, 6-3.
Andrukhou, Acuna, and Jack MacFarlane's matches went unfinished due to the clinch.
The Panthers will return to the court in their final road match of an eight-match stretch at Georgia Tech before opening up their home schedule. The match is set to begin on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.
