GSU Drops Pair of Matches on Opening Weekend

Georgia State's women's tennis team fell to UL Monroe and No. 15 Auburn this weekend at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center to open the 2017 season

* The Panthers fell 4-2 to UL Monroe and 4-0 against Auburn. GSU managed to take two of three matches from the Warhawks in doubles Saturday. Freshman Arina Taluyenko notched GSU's only singles victory, while Daniela Ramirez, Anastasia Grosheva, Tarani Kamoe and Taluyenko earned wins in doubles play.

* GSU will rest up and begin preparation for ITA Kickoff Weekend as the team travels to Athens, Ga., for competition the weekend of Jan. 27-29.


AUBURN, Ala. – Georgia State fell to the UL Warhawks 4-2 at Auburn University on Saturday afternoon. Earlier today, the Panthers dropped their match to No. 15 Auburn 4-0 inside Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center.

GSU fell to 0-2 and 0-1 in the Sun Belt on the season. In Saturday's match, the Panthers managed just one victory in singles play. Freshman Arina Taluyenko defeated Madalina Grigoriu 7-5, 6-2.

Georgia State took two of three from UL Monroe in doubles action. Tarani Kamoe and Taluyenko ousted the Warhawks' duo 6-2. Daniela Ramirez and Anastasia Grosheva rolled to a 6-2 win in the final doubles match of the day.

On Sunday evening, the Auburn Tigers rolled to a 4-0 win over the visiting Panthers 4-0. Auburn took it to Georgia State, as the Panthers salvaged only two combined games in two matches against the Tigers.

Sophomore Daniela Ramirez put up the best fight for the Panthers in the No. 2 match. Ramirez pushed Auburn's best, No. 13 Alizee Michaud, to three sets before finally falling, 7-6, 6-2.
