DULUTH, Ga. – Freshman Harmanprit Kaur, making her collegiate debut, shot rounds of 74 and 72 on Tuesday to lead the Georgia State women's golf team at the Louisville Fall Kickoff at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
The Panthers tied for seventh in the season opening event shooting rounds of 307 and 308.
Kaur finished the one-day, 36-hole event at 2-over par, just five strokes off the lead. She made two birdies, four bogeys and 30 pars on the day.
“Overall, I am very pleased with our first day of competition,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We knew we were playing in a very good field, so it was important for each person on our team to try and just play as well as they could. For the most part, I think we did that and it was a good start to the season.
“As for Harmanprit, I was really impressed with her play today. The first collegiate tournament for anyone can be tough, but her poise on the course was remarkable. She played like a veteran and has a bright future on and off the course.”
Sophomore Jemima Gregson shot rounds of 74 and 80 to finish tied for 30th at 10-over.
Senior Solene Le Coz tied for 39th following rounds of 79 and 79 to shooting 14-over. She was tied with fellow senior Jooeun Bae who shot 80 and 78.
Redshirt-sophomore Emily Royer rounded out the line-up with rounds of 81 and 79 to finish at 16-over par and tied for 43rd.
Junior Paula Zabarte competed as one of three individuals for the Panthers shooting 80 and 78 to tie for 39th at 14-over par. Junior Yasemin Sari shot 80-86 to finish in 50th, while freshman Grace Choi, making her collegiate debut, shot 85-92 to finish in 51st.
Georgia shot 292 and 293 to finish at 9-over par to win the season opening event. Auburn finished second at 15-over par, while Vanderbilt and Augusta tied for third at 24-over. Host Louisville finished fifth at 29-over par. The Panthers tied with College of Charleston for seventh.
Auburn's Elena Hualde and Georgia's Harang Lee tied for first at 3-under par. Georgia's Rinko Mitsunaga finished in third at even par, while teammate Bailey Tardy finished fourth at 1-over. Kaur tied with Vanderbilt's Courtney Zeng for fifth at 2-over.
Georgia State will only have a few days off before heading to Mobile, Ala., for the USA Intercollegiate starting Saturday. The event is hosted by Sun Belt foe South Alabama.
