GREENVILLE, S.C. – Led by an even par 72 from freshman Harmanprit Kaur, the Georgia State women's golf team opened the Lady Paladin Invitational with an 8-over 296 at the Furman University Course on Friday.
The Panthers stand 10th in a very good 20-team field which will play 36 holes over the next two days.
Kaur finished with four opening round birdies. She entered the week with a 73.80 scoring average, best on the team, and a pair of top 12 finishes in her first collegiate events.
“I'm really proud of the way our team came out and played today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “The course has some tough greens, but the team bought into the training we worked on last week. They showed great temperament and I was impressed with how they worked. I'm excited to see how the next two days go and see if we can move up the leaderboard.”
Senior Solene Le Coz and sophomore Jemima Gregson sit tied for 42nd following rounds of 2-over 74. Le Coz finished the round with four birdies, while Gregson added two.
Redshirt-sophomore Emily Royer added a 4-over 76, making a pair of birdies to stand tied for 58th, while senior Jooeun Bae added a 5-over 77 to sit tied for 71st.
Host Furman opened play with a 7-under 281 to hold a one-stroke lead over Middle Tennessee which shot 282. Texas stands third following a 5-under 283, with Illinois in fourth at 2-under. Missouri rounds out the top five at 1-under.
Texas' Emilee Hoffmann leads the field following a 7-under 65. Virginia Tech's Amanda Hollandsworth is second at 5-under par, with Middle Tennessee's Lacie York in third at 4-under. Furman's Natalie Srinivasan, Missouri's Emma Allen and Middle Tennessee's Jenna Burris are tied for fourth at 3-under.
