LAFAYETTE, La.- The Georgia State women's soccer team earned a 1-1 double overtime draw against UL Lafayette in the Sun Belt opener for both teams Friday night. The Panthers opened the match focused on defense, taking just three shots in the first half. Haynes came up big for the team, making five saves to keep the score even at 0-0 going into the half.

UL Lafayette got on the board early in the second half, with Whitney Taggart scoring on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute of the match. Bruemmer tied the match 13 minutes later, also scoring on a penalty kick.

The match went into overtime with the score at 1-1, but neither team was able to create a chance to get in the net again.

“The coaching staff was proud to see the girls fight in a tough road trip,” said head coach Ed Joyce. “Brie Haynes had another good game and it was great to see freshman Mikella Rodriguez play all 110 minutes tonight. We were also happy for Amanda Bruemmer to get her first career goal as a senior, and now we are looking forward to Texas State.”

Georgia State will continue Sun Belt play at Texas State on Sunday, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
