HOMEWOOD, Ala. -- Georgia State fell 1-0 on the road against Samford Thursday night at Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers dropped to 1-2-0 overall following the defeat.
Georgia State kept Samford off the scoreboard in the first half, thanks to a couple of saves from goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte. The Bulldogs finally broke through in the 77th minute when Samantha De Luca finished a ball that had hit off the crossbar. The goal proved to be the difference.
The Panthers nearly tied the game off a strike from forward Sunniyah Tucker that was saved by the Bulldogs' Peyton Hull before hitting off the crossbar.
Alondra Iriarte led Georgia State with four saves. The Panthers recorded nine shots in the loss, four of them on goal but couldn't find a score.
Georgia State will return home to Atlanta to face Wofford on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 6:00 p.m. ET at the GSU Soccer Complex.
