ATLANTA- Georgia State women's soccer head coach Ed Joyce announced Wednesday that Kim Denne will join the staff as an assistant coach. Denne, who comes to Georgia State after a year as the Director of Operations of the Vanderbilt soccer program, will join the staff immediately.
“Kim is a young and enthusiastic coach and we could not be more excited to have her join us,” Joyce said. “She brings with her experience from three quality soccer conferences that will prove invaluable to us moving forward.”
Denne has one year of coaching experience prior to her tenure with the Commodores, serving as a volunteer coach under Paul Cairney at UNC Wilmington during the 2014 season. The Seahawks earned a 7-9-2 overall record, going 2-6-1 in the CAA during her time with the team.
“I am incredibly grateful and excited to be working under Ed and be a part of the Georgia State women's soccer program and Georgia State's Athletic Department as a whole,” Denne said. “Ed's vision and direction to continue to grow this program by challenging our players in all aspects of the game and what it means to be a student-athlete is something that I feel fortunate to be a part of.”
A Fremont, Calif., native, Denne attended Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif., for two seasons before transferring to DePaul University in Chicago.
At Foothill, Denne helped the team to the first of two-straight Coast Conference championships as a freshman. As a sophomore, she was team captain and collected First Team All-Conference honors. Denne, a two-year recipient of Foothill College Scholar Athlete Award, ended her career at Foothill with six goals and a pair of assists.
Denne was a two-time member of the Big East Conference All-Academic Team at DePaul, where she led the Blue Demons to victories over Ohio, Pittsburgh and Villanova as a junior. She played in two matches before a season-ending injury her senior year.
Denne earned her bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Advertising from DePaul in June 2014 and received her NSCAA National Diploma in January 2015.
GSU will return 15 veterans and five starters from last year's team that went 11-6-4 and played for a conference championship. The Panthers begin fall competition on Aug. 9 in an exhibition match against Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.
