ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer (4-3-0) looks to carry momentum from a historic road victory into another non-conference matchup this week, traveling to Spartanburg to face Wofford on Thursday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Snyder Field.
Panthers Ride Momentum from Gainesville
The Panthers earned one of the program's signature victories on Sunday, rallying for a 2-1 win at Florida to secure their first SEC triumph since 2005. After falling behind in the 51st minute, Georgia State responded with two goals in quick succession.
Freshman defender Lily Sawyer scored her first career goal in the 61st minute, finishing a set piece created by Carys Fraser and Sunniyah Tucker. Just three minutes later, senior forward Reese Gordon provided the game-winner, slotting home her third goal of the season off an assist from captain Aaliyah Faddoul.
Goalkeeper Ariana Anderson anchored the Panthers' defensive effort with six saves, raising her season total to 32 stops.
Balanced Attack Leads the Way
Georgia State has scored 17 goals through seven matches, averaging 2.43 per game. Junior transfer Hina Suzuki continues to lead the team with four goals, while Gordon (three goals, one assist) and sophomore Emily Glenn (two goals) have added steady production up front.
Faddoul remains the team's offensive catalyst, leading the Panthers with 38 shots and the team lead with five assists. Gonzalez (three assists) and Tucker (two goals, three assists) have also provided key playmaking contributions.
Defensively, Anderson has started every match, posting three shutouts while compiling a 1.32 goals against average.
