Panthers Go 3-0 in Tennessee

*The No. 66 Georgia State men's tennis team defeated No. 62 Middle Tennessee 4-1 to improve to 13-4.

 MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- The No. 66 Georgia State men's tennis team defeated No. 62 Middle Tennessee 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in the final match of a three-day trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn. For the second day in a row, freshman Jack MacFarlane earned the match-clinching point in singles play.

The Panthers improved to 13-4 while the Blue Raiders fell to 14-5.

In doubles play, GSU claimed the first set when Jannis Koeke and Felipe Jaworski defeated Luis Morillo Diaz and Dima Zyhmantovich 6-1 in the No. 3 match. Middle Tennessee tied up doubles play in the No. 2 match when Zackery Kennedy and MacFarlane fell 7-5 to Miguel Negre and Gian Issa. The Panthers clinched the doubles point when Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou earned a 7-6(7-5) victory over Ayed Zatar Cordero and Gonzalo Morell.

Kennedy opened singles play for Georgia State with a win, defeating Zyhmantovich 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. In the only singles loss for the Panthers, Acuna fell 6-3, 7-6(7-3) to Negre. Andrukhou earned the next point for the Panthers, putting the score at 3-1 with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Issa.

In the No. 5 match, MacFarlane earned the match-clinching point with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Cordero. Due to the clinch, Koeke and Jaworski's matches went unfinished.

“I couldn't be more proud of our team's effort in picking up three quality wins this weekend,” head coach Brett Ross said. “I thought we were extremely resilient and every single guy contributed to our success. It was also great to see Jack MacFarlane get two clinching wins.”

The Panthers will be back on the court on April 2 to play Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.
