BOCA RATON, Fla.- Georgia State, ranked No. 64 in the country, closed a three-match spring break trip to Florida with a 4-0 sweep of Florida Atlantic 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. GSU improved to 10-4 on the season, while the Owls fell to 8-10.
The match started out in singles play, with freshman Jack MacFarlane recording a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Alexander Gitin to earn the first point for the Panthers. Jannis Koeke finished next, defeating Jaoa Gauer 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 match.
Sophomore Sebastian Acuna put Georgia State ahead 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anthony Schohn. Zackery Kenendy clinched the match, defeating Remi Chauncerel 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the tie-breaker set. Felipe Jaworski and Andrei Andrukhou's matches both went unfinished in the third set.
Due to the sweep, the Panthers did not face the Owls in doubles play.
The Panthers will be back on the court for a three-day series in Murfreesboro, Tenn. GSU will face South Alabama on March 25 at 10 a.m., UAB on March 26 at 10 a.m. and Middle Tennessee on March 27 at 2 p.m.
