Panthers Open 2016 Season with 2-0 Weekend Start

  • Georgia State will stay on the road next weekend as the team travels to South Carolina for dual matches against Furman and South Carolina.

ATLANTA -- Georgia State picked up two wins and went 13-1 on the weekend including going 12-0 in singles play during their first dual play of the season.

Niri Rasolomalala was the only Panther to win all her matches over the weekend. She and Tarani Kamoe defeated UAB's No. 1 Doubles pair 6-4 before dispatching UAB's McKenna Root (7-6, 6-3).

Against Samford, Rasolomalala and teammate Lara Vovk picked up the only doubles win for GSU in the No. 2 spot, winning 6-1. Rasolomalala also defeated Iva Parapunova (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 3 singles position.

Linn Timmermann continued her strong play in the No. 1 position in singles. She defeated Paradis Kianoush of UAB (6-0, 6-4) and Jessica Northcutt of Samford (7-5, 6-4).

Kristin Rehse, handled the competition in the No. 2 singles spot. She won (6-4, 6-3) against UAB and (6-2, 6-2) against Samford. In doubles, she and Timmermann won 6-2 against UAB's No. 2 duo.

Freshmen Chiara Volejnicek and Daniela Ramirez recorded wins in the No. 4 and 5 singles spots Saturday and the No. 5 and 6 spots Sunday. Volejnicek won (7-5, 6-2) against UAB and (7-6, 6-2) versus Samford. Ramirez took victories versus UAB (6-4, 6-3) and Samford (6-4, 7-6)

To go along with her doubles win, Kamoe won in the No. 6 singles spot; defeating UAB's Lynch (7-5, 6-4, 1-0)

Lara Vovk took over the No. 4 spot on Sunday against Samford and won (6-4, 6-4).

Georgia State Women's Tennis will continue to stay on the road next weekend. They will face Furman Friday, Feb. 12 and South Carolina Saturday, Feb. 13.

The Panthers will host their first home dual matches on Friday, Feb. 19 against FIU at Dunwoody Country Club and will face off against George Washington Sunday, Feb. 21 at Piedmont Park.
