KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Georgia State women's golf team shot a second round 23-over 311 to stand in 28th place following the second round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic, the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country.

The 41-team field is playing Osprey Point Golf Club and Oak Point Golf Club along the South Carolina coast. After 36 holes of play, the top 20 teams will now play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 21-41, which includes the Panthers, will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.  

Sophomore Yasemin Sari shot a second round 4-over 76 to stand at 10-over par and tied for 65th entering the final round.

“I was glad to see that we scored better today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We also made fewer big numbers which is going to be important if we want to reach our goals this season. Hopefully we can put together a nice round on Tuesday and see how many spots we can move up the leaderboard.”

Junior Jooeun Bae added a second-round 78 to sit at 11-over and tied for 73rd. Senior Julie Lied improved by 13 shots, tying for the Panthers low round of the day with a 76, to move up to a tie for 166th at 21-over par with junior Solene Le Coz who shot 81 on Monday.

Freshman Jemima Gregson rounded out the line-up with an 81 on Monday to sit at 14-over and tied for 110th entering the final round.

Coastal Carolina and host College of Charleston are tied for the lead at 13-over par as first round leader Chattanooga struggled on Monday and dropped to third at 20-over. Elon stands fourth at 22-over, followed by Old Dominion in fifth at 23-over.

Troy's Fatima Cano leads the field at 3-under par following a 72 on Monday. Elon's Heather Munro shot a 4-under 68 to jump 23 spots and is now alone in second at 2-under. Coastal Carolina's Malene Krolboll Hansen and Chattanooga's Emily McLennan stand tied for third at 1-under, with William & Mary's Alessandra Liu in fifth at even par.

Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will return to action March 20-22, for the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
