ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over ETSU on Friday, improving their record to 6-3 while the Bucs fell to 3-4. Sophomore Sebastian Acuna clinched the point for the Panthers in a three-set tie-breaker.
GSU continues to compete well in doubles play, picking up the first point of the match after winning two of the three doubles matches. The first pair to finish was Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou, defeating Ismael Merino and Diego Nunez 6-1 in the No. 1 match. The Bucs tied up doubles play when Jannis Koeke and Felipe Jaworski fell to Robert Herrera and Sebastian Yllera 6-1. Zackery Kennedy and Jack MacFarlane clinched the singles point with a 7-6 win over Rogiero Ribeiro and David Biosca in the No. 2 match.
ETSU quickly tied the match up in singles play with Herrera's 6-4, 6-1 defeat of MacFarlane. The Bucs then took the lead over the Panthers when Koeke fell 6-4, 6-1 to Biosca. Jaworski then tied the match back up at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Merino.
Georgia State took a 3-2 lead in the No. 2 match when Kennedy defeated Ribeiro 6-4, 6-4, but ETSU tied the match again after Andrukhou fell to Nunez 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Acuna was the last Panthers to finish his match with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Yllera, clinching the match.
