Sari Leads Panthers After Day One on Amelia Island

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Yasemin Sari shot rounds of 72 and 77 to lead the Georgia State women's golf on day one of the third annual Amelia Island Invitational at Amelia National Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla. The Panthers stand 14th following rounds of 305 and 311 with one round to play.

Sari made a pair of birdies en route to her opening round 72, one of two rounds of even par for the Panthers during the morning. She stands tied for 26th at 5-over par.

Freshman Jemima Gregson, who finished the fall with three-straight top 20 finishes, shot rounds of 72 and 79 to stand tied for 34th at 7-over entering Tuesday's final round.

“We a few nice rounds today, but not enough to put together the type of team scores that we would like to shoot,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “I do think we are capable of coming back and putting a nice round together tomorrow which could quickly move us several spots up the leaderboard.”

Senior Julie Lied added rounds of 77 and 82 to sit at 15-over and tied for 66th, while sophomore Paula Zabarte shot rounds of 84 and 79 to sit at 19-over and tied for 77th.

Junior Solene LeCoz rounded out the Panthers line-up with rounds of 89 and 76 to sit tied for 81st at 21-over par. Her second round included three birdies.

North Florida leads the 16-team field at 1-under par following rounds of 285 and 290. The Ospreys have a nine-stroke lead over Bradley which is at 8-over. Cincinnati stands third at 10-over, followed by Campbell in fourth at 15-over. Kennesaw State rounds out the top five at 18-over par.

Daytona State College's Ji Sun Kang shot back-to-back rounds of 68 to stand at 8-under and hold a five-stroke lead entering the final round. North Florida's Megan Wilshire stands second at 3-under, followed by Bradley's Danielle Lemek in third at 2-under. Cincinnati's Christina Gloor and Bradley's Jenna Roadley are tied for fourth at 1-under.

Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will return to action at the end of the month at the Kiawah Island Classic at Turtle Point Golf Club, Feb. 28-March 1.
