WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Georgia State men's soccer team earned its first conference win of the season with  a 3-1 victory over Howard on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Max Hemmings scored two of GSU's three goals, including the game-winner.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 8-6 overall (1-1 Sun Belt) while the Bisons fell to 1-12-3 overall (0-2 Sun Belt).

The Bisons were able to take an early lead over GSU, with Daniel Hart scoring in the first 12 minutes of play. Hemmings was able to tie the match 1-1 less than two minutes later, scoring off a penalty kick at the 13-minute mark.

Hemmings scored again just before halftime, giving Georgia State a 2-1 lead after scoring off a set piece from Andrew Thompson. The goal was the eventual-game winner for the Panthers.

Coming out of the half, senior Casey Shultis scored his first goal this season off a pass from Amiri Abraham in the 50th minute of play.

The Panthers outshot the Bison 10-7, with Hemmings leading the offensive charge with four shots and two on target. Rashid Alarape and Thompson both took two shots, each with one on target.

“It's always great to get a conference win, especially on the road,” said head coach Brett Surrency. “There are certainly some things we want to do better moving forward, but we will take these three points and focus on the next game.”

The Panthers will be back on the field on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to host Jacksonville, Surrency's alma mater. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com. Admission to the GSU Sports Complex is free of charge.
