PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Georgia State got its best round of the season thus far, a 1-under 71 from junior Solene Le Coz, to wrap up the first day of play at the Jacksonville Classic on Monday at Marsh Landing Country Club.
In wet conditions, the Panthers shot rounds of 310 and 300 to stand in 11th place entering the final round of play on Tuesday.
LeCoz, who opened play with a morning round of 9-over 81, made four birdies on her second 18 holes to shoot a 1-under 71. The junior is tied for 47th at 8-over par following 36 holes.
Sophomore Yasemin Sari stands tied for 25th following rounds of 73 and 75. The sophomore is 4-over par entering the final round.
“I was proud of the way the team fought back in the second round,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “I thought we played much better. We limited our mistakes and were able to make some birdies. We still have a lot of work to do, but if we can continue to show improvement on Tuesday, it will show that we are heading in the right direction with a young squad.”
Paula Zabarte added rounds of 79 and 75 for the Panthers to stand in a tie for 55th at 10-over par, while freshman Jemima Gregson added rounds of 77 and 79 to finish the day 12-over par, tied for 61st.
Freshman Gloria Zeitler rounded out the line-up with rounds of 81 and 79 to sit in 67th-place at 16-over par.
Florida State will entering the final round with a commanding 20-stroke lead. The Seminoles are 19-under par and lead Rollins College which stands at 1-over. Daytona State is in third at 4-over, followed by North Florida in fourth at 8-over. Wofford rounds out the top five at 11-over.
Florida State's Matilda Castren leads the field by one stroke at 7-under par following rounds of 69 and 68. Daytona State's Katie Veale and Florida State's Kim Metraux are tied for second at 6-under, followed by Florida State's Kayla Jones in fourth at 5-under. Rollins College's Annie Dulman and Daytona State's Kaye Kwon are tied for fifth at 4-under.

Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will return to the course in just over a week for the Wendy's Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
