LOXLEY, ALA. - Georgia State posted a second straight 20-over 308 team score to finish in fifth place of the Sun Belt Championship on Wednesday.
Senior Lauren Court carded a 3-over 75 in Round 2, while sophomore Solene Le Coz posted a 4-over 76.
Junior Julie Lied added a 6-over 78 and Jooeun Bae a 7-over 79 for the Panthers in round two. Freshman Yasemin Sari saw a good round with four birdies go astray with a quadruple bogey and triple bogey to knock her down to a 9-over 81.
Court's rounds of 76-75 (151) have her in a tie for ninth place with the final trio of golfers yet to finish that second round in a weather delay. Sari finished tied for 21st and Le Coz tied for 25th to give GSU a trio in the top 25.
Troy (No. 78 Golfweek) had a 10-stroke lead over Texas State (No. 84 Golfweek) with that final group on the 18th fairway when play was stopped with lightning in the area.
The championship took place at Steelwood CC, a par 72, 6,150-yard course east of Mobile, Ala. GSU entered the tournament with a 161 ranking by GolfWeek.com.
"We made a lot of good shots (11 birdies Wednesday), but gave them back with the bogeys," coach Cathy Mant said. "The team hung in there and they all played hard which makes us feel good about next year.
"I am proud of Lauren Court finishing her career with a top 10 finish and she has been a joy to have at Georgia State," Mant added. "I give the Steelwood folks a ton of credit for keeping the course in amazing shape with the inches and inches of rain we had. The course played a little longer when wet, but but drained extremely well.
"We'll continue to work on course management and our short game and get ourselves ready for next year now," Mant noted. "With ony one senior, the team having time to heal up injuries and recruits, we feel good about where we are for the future."
Senior Lauren Court was named to the All-Sun Belt second team on Monday, making a second consecutive year to earn all-conference status.
