TALLAHASSEE, FLA – Solene Le Coz sank four birdies on her back nine holes Saturday to post a second-consecutive 76 (+4) to lead Georgia State in the third annual Florida State Match-Up at Southwood Golf Course.
The sophomore from Le Rainy, France, birdied three of the first four holes on her back nine and then the final hole to produce a two-under final nine holes. Her 76 matched yesterday's opening-round 76 and places her in a tie for 27th in the 68-golfer field.
Georgia State still sits 12th in the field as five strokes separate the top five teams and nine strokes separate the top nine in the field with 11 schools in the top 100 and seven in the top 50 rankings. The final 18 holes tee are set for Sunday morning.
The Panthers carded a team round of 322, just one shot better than Friday's opening round. Lauren Court posted a second-day 80, with Paula Zabarte netting an 82 and freshmen Emily Royer and Yasmine Sari carding rounds of 83. GSU is playing this event with three freshmen.
“I am quite proud of Solene Le Coz for her four birdies on her second nine today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “As a team, we played poorly again today, but the ladies really hit the ball a lot better. For example, Court and Zabarte hit 14 of the greens in regulation and Yasemine and Solene hit 13 greens in regulation. But, those stats and the final scores show how much work we have to do on the short game. Our putting on the Bermuda greens was not what we want. The team appears determined and dedicated to making the necessary improvements.”
No. 2-ranked South Carolina holds the lead, with Florida State, Virginia, Furman and Texas A&M rounding out the top five. Texas A&M is coached by former Panther golfer Trelle McCombs.
