ATLANTA – A dominating performance by Georgia State's women's tennis team produced a 7-0 sweep over No. 67 Furman on Friday night at Atlanta Athletic Club. The upset improves GSU's record to 5-3.

“We played our best tennis of the year. The girls are buying into our coaching,” head coach Jason Marshall said. “They're playing better and better with every match.”

Georgia State picked up the doubles point with 6-3 wins at No. 2 and 3. Niri Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse, GSU's No. 2 pair, have won eight of their last 10 and have a 6-2 record this spring. Masa Grgan and Marcia Tere-Apisah improved to 3-1 at No. 3 doubles with their win.

The Panthers kept their feet on the gas in singles play. Grgan entered the day on a two-match losing streak but snapped it with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1. Rasolomalala, Rehse and Linn Timmermann each put an end to their respective losing streaks as well. Timmermann dropped her first set but roared back with a 6-2 Set 2 win and won 6-1 in the third frame to clinch the contest for the Panthers. Georgia State finished Furman off as Chaimaa Roudami extended her streak to five wins at No. 5 and Marcia Tere-Apisah won her second straight singles match at No. 6.

With the win, GSU has now beaten the No. 67 ranked team in back-to-back weeks. The Panthers defeated then ranked No. 67 Winthrop a week ago in Raleigh, N.C. In its next match, Georgia State hosts Miami (Ohio) Sunday at 8 a.m. at Atlanta Athletic Club.
