STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia State fell to rival Georgia Southern 4-3 in Statesboro, Ga. on Sunday afternoon. It marked the Panthers first back-to-back losses of the season as Georgia State dropped to 2-2-1 in Sun Belt play.

Lauren Harriman scored her third goal of the season to the tie the game up 1-1 after just 15 minutes of play, with an assist from Suzanne Arafa. It was Harriman's fifth career goals.

Caitlin Ray scored the second goal for the Panthers following another Eagles' goal, to tie the game again at 2-2. Coming out of the half, she once again scored a tying goal to put the score at 3-3. Ray's goal, assisted by Arafa, was her seventh of the season.

A goal off a penalty kick sealed the win for Georgia Southern, coming less than a minute after Ray's second goal.

The Panthers outshot the Eagles 15-9, but four saves by Georgia Southern prevented Georgia State from connecting with the net. The team outshot Georgia Southern in both halves, with eight shots coming the second half. Ray led the team in shots with four, while Jenna Moore had three for the game.

“It was a disappointing performance on our end. We gave them too many opportunities and they finished the chances they were given,” head coach Derek Leader said of the loss.

The team hosts the final two regular season games next weekend, with Senior Day coming on Sunday against Troy. The Panthers will host South Alabama on Friday night.
