ATLANTA – Playing on the indoor courts at Atlanta Athletic Club, Georgia State (1-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) and Troy competed in a conference match that saw the Trojans come out on top, 4-3, on Saturday night.

After falling behind early, the Panthers nearly pulled off the comeback. Georgia State won No. 1 doubles, but lost tiebreakers at the other two doubles matches to put Troy up 1-0. The win for Sofiane Chevallier and Zack Kennedy was the eighth-straight for GSU's top duo.

Troy gained another point with a victory at No. 2 singles. Freshman Sebastian Acuna got the rally started with a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 4, but Troy went up 3-2 with a three-set win at No. 1. Freshman Andrei Andrukhou needed to win his No. 3 singles match to keep the Panthers alive and he did just that with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.

It came down to the final two singles competitions. The Trojans won the first set at No. 5, but GSU's Chevallier won his first set at No. 6. Georgia State's rally fell short as Joseph Bishop lost to Troy's Giovani Samaha in straight sets to clinch the match. Chevallier went on to win the second set 7-6 to leave the final score at 4-3 in favor of Troy.

Georgia State is back in action next week when the team hits the road for a trio of matches in Louisiana, two against ranked teams. The Panthers will play their second conference match of the season, battling No. 73 Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday in Lafayette, La. GSU then heads to New Orleans to face DePaul on Saturday and No. 55 Tulane on Sunday.
