What you need to know:
* GSU (1-2) was defeated 6-1 by Middle Tennessee (4-2) at Life Time Athletic and Tennis on Friday night.
* Freshman Kristin Rehse pulled out the lone win, sweeping the No. 3 singles match.
* Georgia State hosts Louisiana Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Piedmont Park.
ATLANTA – Freshman Kristin Rehse was a bright spot in a 6-1 loss for the Georgia State women's tennis team to Middle Tennessee on Friday night. The newcomer pulled out the lone Panther victory at Life Time Athletic and Tennis.
Georgia State got off to a slow start in doubles and struggled to recover. In the No. 1 doubles match, Tarani Kamoe and Chaimaa Roudami fell 6-2 to Middle Tennessee's Tiffany William and Darya Shulzhanok. Niri Rasolomalala and Rehse had similar trouble at No. 2 and lost their match 6-1, giving the Blue Raiders the doubles point.
Georgia State tied the match at 1-1 as Rehse made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0. The Panthers fell behind in the other singles matches though, with the exception of Rasolomalala at No. 1. Rasolomalala held off a fierce rally from MT's William to take the first set 7-5. As the two evenly matched opponents battled back and forth in Set 2, Middle Tennessee was able to clinch the contest with wins at Nos. 4, 5 and 2.
GSU has two more home matches this weekend. The Panthers host Louisiana Tech at 3 p.m. at Piedmont Park on Saturday before a Sunday morning meeting with Florida Gulf Coast at Piedmont Park. That match is scheduled for 9 a.m., weather permitting.
