Georgia State carded a 310 score to slip to 13th place in the 18-team field on the second day of the 43rd annual Furman Lady Paladin Invitational.
The highlight for the Panthers was a hole-in-one by sophomore Solene Le Coz on the par 3, 164-yard 14th hole. That sparked her to a final 77 score, tying Lauren Court and Jooeun Bae for the day's best score. Junior Julie Lied carded a 79 and freshman Emily Royer posted a score of 80. Royer leads the team with a two-day score of 6-over par to tie for 33rd overall of the 96 golfers.
“With a young team, we're still learning and today we let one bad shot effect the next shot,” head coach Cathy Mant said. Her point was made with the fact that the team carded 10 birdies, but offset that plus with six double bogeys. “We put up too many big numbers today and our mental side of the game got in our way of just playing good and consistent golf. The players want to succeed and have a good attitude so all we can do is keep working and doing things the right way.”
This event includes a field of 12 teams ranked in the top 100 and six in the top 50. Host Furman holds the lead heading into the final day, with Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Kansas and Florida State rounding out the top five.
“It was a great experience for Solene Le Coz to enjoy the thrill of a hole-in-one,” Mant added. “Those moments are special for any golfer at any level at any time.”
Georgia State's second-day was seven strokes higher than its opening round of 303 that put the Panthers in 11th place.
The third and final day of the 54-hole event will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
