MURRAY, Ky. – Two goals in four minutes was the difference as Georgia State was downed by Murray State 2-1 Friday on a windy afternoon at Cutchin Stadium in Murray, Ky. The Panthers grabbed an early lead in the 4th minute but a pair of Racer goals after the break spelled defeat.

  • On the Panthers third corner Margaret Bruemmer whipped the ball into the box and with the help of the wind it deflected off the far post and into the back of the net to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead after just four minutes.

Murray State stat turned up the pressure over the next 16 minutes:

  • The Racers created a scoring chance off the restart in the fourth minute, but Panther goalkeeper Brie Haynes made the save on Julie Mooney's attempt.
  • In the 10th and 15th minutes Haynes was called on to make two saves on shots by Rebecca Bjorkvall and Harriet Withers as the Racers continued to attack.
  • Murray State nearly tied the match in the 20th minute but Pavlina Nepokojova's attempt clanged off the post.
  • The Racers best chance came in the 28th minute but Bjorkvall's shot sailed just over the crossbar.

Georgia State's Jenna Moore forced Murray State keeper Savannah Haberman to make a save on a header in the 31st minute to keep the GSU lead 1-0 at the break.

  • The Racers outshot the Panthers 10-5 in the first 45 minutes of action but GSU took four of the five total corners.

In the 65th minute, Mooney fired a shot on target and Haynes made the initial save but the rebound fell to Withers feet who slotted it into the open net to tie the match 1-1. Four minute later, Murray State took a 2-1 lead when Withers again found the back of the net. Her initial hit the post but deflected right back to her and her scored with an easy tap-in.
