Men's Tennis Wins 4-3 Thriller over S.C. State

ATLANTA - The Georgia State men's tennis team orchestrated a thrilling comeback to win 4-3 over S.C. State Saturday. The Panthers won three of their four points in three-set singles matches.?

Senior Robert Schulze shined on senior day, winning both his singles and doubles match, in addition to clinching the match for GSU. Schulze first won his doubles match with Sofiane Chevallier at No. 1 doubles over Jiri Stiburek and Martin Kobza, 8-4. He then clinched the match for the Panthers with his three-set win at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Kobza.?

Junior Sofiane Chevallier had an outstanding comeback to tie the match up at 3-3. He won his first set at No. 3 singles over Stanislav Baco 6-4. He then lost the second set 6-2. In the third set, he was down 5-0 before fighting back to 5-4. At Banco's match point at 5-4, the lights at Piedmont Park shut off and a 20 minute break followed. Once play resumed, Chevallier broke Banco's serve and tied the match at 5-5. He then went on to win the next two games to secure the third set 7-5.?

Freshman Felipe Jaworski also won in three sets. At No. 5 singles, Jaworski defeated Daniel Vala 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Jannis Koeke, playing at No. 1 singles, won in straight sets over Stiburek 6-3, 6-2.?

The Panthers are 1-1 so far this weekend and will host College of Charleston at 8 a.m. at either Blackburn Tennis Center or Atlanta Athletic Club, depending on the weather.?
