Men's Tennis Falls to South Alabama 4-0 in Semi-Finals

NEW ORLEANS - The No. 3-seeded men's tennis team fell to No. 2-seeded South Alabama 4-0 in the Sun Belt Conference Championship semi-finals. 

The defending Sun Belt champions dropped the doubles point, losing at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles, senior Robert Schulze lost to Sun Belt men's tennis Player of the Year Daniel Leitner 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 4 singles, freshman Eric Baum lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to Gerhard Gruindelingh. At No. 6 singles, freshman Valentin Horvat fell to Juan Troglia 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Jannis Koeke won the first set against Manuel Belda 6-3 and was tied 5-5 in the second when the match was called. At No. 3 singles, Sofiane Chevallier was in a third set battle with Tuki Jacobs when the match was halted. At No. 5 singles, Felipe Jaworski also won his first set 7-6 and was mid-way through the second set when the match was called.

The Panthers' season ends with an 11-14 record and two wins over ranked opponents. South Alabama was given the No. 2 seed in the tournament after finishing the season with a No. 71 national-ranking. The Panthers will return seven of nine players next season.
