Women's Golf Leads JMU Eagle Landing Invitational

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The Georgia State women's golf team leads the JMU Eagle Invitational by three strokes entering the final round of play following a 9-over par 297 on Sunday. Three Panthers are tied for fourth as Georgia State looks for its first win of the year.

Seniors Melissa Siviter and Maria Palacios along with junior Lauren Court are tied for fourth as Georgia State shot a second round 297, the third lowest score of the day. The Panthers lead former conference foe Delaware by three strokes and Elon by four.

The trio of Panthers is at 1-over par after 36 holes. Siviter shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday, while Palacios shot even par and Court shot a 2-over 74.

Georgia State opened play on Friday with a 4-over 292 and is 13-over for the 54-hole event.

“We had some really good stuff today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “I am really pleased by the play of Melissa who shot a couple under. Lauren hung in really well and Maria is played great. I am excited and confident that we will do well tomorrow.”

Senior Laura Sanchez shot a second round 10-over 82 and is tied for 50th at 11-over.

Freshman Jooeun Bae, making her collegiate debut is tied for 71st at 17-over par.

Solveig Helgesen, competing as an individual, shot a second round 83 and is tied for 59th at 13-over par.

Sophomore Julie Lied, also competing as an individual shot a 79 on Saturday and is tied for 71st at 17-over par.

Freshman Solene LeCoz, the third Panther individual was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

Samford and Southern Illinois rounded out the top five teams and are seven strokes behind the Panthers.

Southern Illinois' Cassie Rushing leads the field at 1-under, one-stroke ahead of Daytona State College's Tiffany Chan and Elon's Sunna Vidisdottir. Court, Palacios and Siviter are all just two strokes off the top of the leaderboard.

Following this week's action, Georgia State will be back in action March 24-25 for the UALR Women's Golf Classic at Diamante Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.
