Royer's 74 Leads Women on Day Two at Kiawah Island

Freshman Emily Royer shot a 2-over par 74 on the second day of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Bay on Kiawah Island, S.C.

The Panthers shot a 313 as a team, nine strokes better than the opening day score, but still stand 18th among the 20 teams in the field. Nine of the teams are ranked in the top 75.

"Emily played consistent golf today and it was just one double-bogey hole that hurt her score," coach Cathy Mant said. "The team actually played a lot of good holes and had multiple birdie opportunities today, but nothing dropped for them."

"When we missed shots today, we paid the price with big numbers," Mant added. "Our goal is to play our best round tomorrow and break the streak of poor final rounds we've had this fall. We will certainly give it our best effort to finish the fall season with a strong round."

Royer, a freshman from Maidstone, England, had two birdies and 13 pars in her Monday round of 74. Junior Julie Lied and sophomore Jooeun Bae each posted rounds of 79, while senior Lauren Court and Solene Le Coz scored 81s.

Coastal Carolina holds the two-day lead at 4-under 572, 12 strokes ahead of No. 25 ranked GRU-Augusta.

GSU will tee off Tuesday morning for the final round.
