Women's Golf Fourth as Play Suspended at Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Georgia State women's golf team moved into a tie for fourth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate as the second round of play was suspended due to darkness on Sunday evening. The Panthers are on pace to shoot the low round of the tournament, standing at 1-over with approximately four holes to play.

Following an opening round 308 that put the Panthers in a tie for 11th, head coach Cathy Mant's team regrouped in the afternoon and currently have four players in the top-30.

Second round play will resume on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Once the round concludes, a final-round shotgun will begin immediately.

After an opening round 5-over, 77, senior Melissa Siviter is 2-under for her second round thru 14 holes. She stands 3-over for the tournament and tied for sixth. Siviter has made five birdies in her second round.

Senior Maria Palacios opened the day with a 4-over, 76, and is currently 1-over in her second round with five holes to play. She is 5-over for the tournament and tied for 14th.

Senior Laura Sanchez shot 76 on Sunday morning and is 4-over in the afternoon with three holes to play. Sanchez is currently tied for 28th with teammate Lauren Court.

Court opened play with a 7-over, 79, in the first-round, but is just 1-over on her second-18 with three holes to play.

Making the biggest improvement on day one was sophomore Julie Lied. Following an opening-round 11-over 83, Lied is just 1-over thru 13 holes in the second round. She is tied for 57th entering Monday's final day.

No. 39 Kansas currently leads the field at 13-over. The Jayhawks are 4-over in their second round. No. 42 College of Charleston is second at 16-over, followed by No. 36 Illinois in third at 20-over. Georgia State and East Tennessee State are currently tied for the fourth spot at 21-over.

College of Charleston's Laura Fuenfstueck and GRU Augusta's Jessica Haigwood are tied for first at 2-under, followed by Kansas' Minami Levonowch in third at even par. East Tennessee State's Vivienne Chin is fourth at 1-over, followed by Illnois' Ember Schuldt in fifth at 2-over.

The Panthers have played in the event five times in the last seven years. Despite a 15th place finish last year, Georgia State has had success at the event in the past, winning in 2008 and 2009.

Monday's final day of play will conclude the fall season for the Panthers. Georgia State will return to action at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 9-11.
