Lorentzen Wins, Panthers Third in Miami

Georgia State's Charlotte Lorentzen fired a final round 73 in difficult conditions to capture individual medalist honors at the Hurricane Invitational and lead the Panthers to a third-place finish in the team standings in the 54-hole event at Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club in Miami, Fla.

Lorentzen's victory is her third tournament title in six events this year and the fourth win of her career. The senior from Soroe, Denmark birdied her final hole, sinking a 15-foot putt on the par-four third hole to post the lowest score of the day and finish one stroke ahead of Ginger Mak of James Madison. Lorentzen, the No. 40-ranked individual in the nation, played the three rounds at six-over-par 219.

"Charlotte just played awesome," said GSU head coach Cathy Mant. "To score like that in those conditions was really impressive, and what a way to finish with a birdie on her final hole."

Tuesday's final round featured wind gusts of 35-40 miles per hour on the par-71 layout with water on both sides.

"I'm excited with the way we finished, and I'm proud of the entire team for hanging in there in tough conditions," said Mant. "We still have things to work on, but we can definitely build on this performance as we prepare for our next event."

The Panthers, ranked No. 69 by Golfweek, combined for the fourth-best team score of the day at 316 to finish in third place, eight strokes behind co-leaders Miami and Ohio State. The Buckeyes, the highest ranked team in the field at No. 20, won the team title in a playoff.

Georgia State finished ahead of No. 53 Michigan, No. 58 Campbell and No. 60 Kennesaw State to earn its fourth top-five finish in six events in 2011-12.

Senior Charlotte Guilleux (St. Maur de Fosses, France) finished in a tie for 22nd place for the Panthers, followed by sophomore Laura Sanchez (Bogota, Columbia) tied for 27th and freshman Lauren Court (Lawrenceville, Ga.) tied for 31st.

The Panthers will next be in action at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, March 16-18 at Gainesville, Fla.
