Stockbridge, Ga.--East Tennessee State's Gabriella Wahl set the tournament scoring record to capture individual medalist honors, and Maryland won the team title at the 19th annual John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia State at Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
Wahl fired a 69 in Tuesday's final round to finish with a tournament record 54-hole total of seven-under par 209, and teammate Sian Evans finished third at one-under to give the Buccaneers a third-place finish.
The Terrapins placed four individuals in the top 15, led by Jessie Hollandsworth in a tie for sixth place, to prevail in the team competition by six strokes over Mississippi State. The Bulldogs' Ally McDonald was the individual runnerup at two-under, three shots behind Wahl.
The host Panthers finished ninth, but senior Charlotte Guilleux tied for 10th in the individual standings for her first top 10 showing of the year. The native of St. Maur de Fosses, France, birdied her final two holes for a 75 Tuesday, giving her a 54-hole score of six-over par 222.
Charlotte Lorentzen turned in Georgia State's best third-round score at 74. After the senior from Soroe, Denmark, played the first nine holes at four over, she finished with three birdies on the back nine, including 16 and 18. Lorentzen completed the tournament at 14-over and tied for 30th, just the second time this year she has finished outside the top 15.
"Congratulations to Maryland for winning the tournament with a strong final round," said GSU head coach Cathy Mant. "And Gabriella Wahl of ETSU played a terrific tournament. We really appreciate all the GSU staff and volunteers as who supported us. Thanks to them and to Eagles Landing for helping us put on a first-class event.
"I'm disappointed that we didn't perform better as a team, but I'm thrilled for Charlotte Guilleux," Mant continued. "She had a tough time at our last tournament, so it was great to see her bounce back. Charlotte Lorentzen struggled a bit, but she felt much better today.
"As a team, we are struggling with our putting, and our mental game just isn't where it needs to be, so we are trying to make some changes and figure out some things. Our goal continues to be to win the CAA conference title, and we'll keep working toward that."
ETSU entered the final round with a three-shot lead, but Maryland shot 297 today for a 54-hole total of 885. Hollandsworth was the Terps' top individual at two over, while Emily Gimpel tied for eighth at five-over and Christine Shimel and Juliet Vongphoumy tied for 13th at seven-over.
