Playing against a field with six Top 20 and 12 Top 50 teams, the Georgia State women's golf team finished in 17th place at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, played at the par-70 Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
Eighteenth-ranked Florida won the team title by one stroke over second-ranked Alabama. Maria Salinas of Florida State played the three rounds at four-under par to capture individual medalist honors.
Charlotte Lorentzen was the Panthers' top individual, tying for 28th place. She shot a three-over par 73 today to finish at 223 (+13). This is the first time in seven events this year that Lorentzen, the No. 25-ranked individual in the nation, has not finished in the top 15.
"Charlotte Lorentzen didn't hit it very well today and didn't make many putts, but she still shot 73," said GSU head coach Cathy Mant, who Panthers are ranked No. 62 by Golfweek. "She gets it that you just have to keep grinding out there."
A bright spot for the Panthers was the play of freshman Lauren Court over the last two rounds. The rookie from Lawrenceville, Ga. (Collins Hill HS) followed up Saturday's season-best 72 with a six-over 76 in Sunday's final round. She finished the tournament tied for 39th place at +29.
"Lauren hung in there today, and I was pleased with that" said Mant. "She was playing number one today for the first time, a totally different deal for a freshman, and she hung in there."
