Playing against a field with six Top 20 and 12 Top 50 teams, the Georgia State women's golf team stands tied for 16th place after one round of play at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, played at the par-70 Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

The Panthers shot 309 (+29) as a team and are tied with Kent State but are within seven strokes of six other teams. The 54-hole event continues with single rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Charlotte Lorentzen and Laura Sanchez are GSU's top individuals, each shooting five-over 75, tied for 36th place.

Lorentzen, the senior from Soroe, Denmark, was one-under through her first 14 holes before faltering with a double-bogey and then a seven on the par-three eighth hole.

"Charlotte actually played really well for her first 14 holes. Then she doubled her 15th hole. On the seven, her shot hit the front edge and spun back into the water. It's tough to play that well and that the wheels come off the last four holes."

Sanchez, the sophomore from Bogota, Columbia, birdied the par-five third hole and the par-three 15th en route to her lowest score of the spring.

"Our players are working hard, but unfortunately it's not coming through on the course," said Mant. "We are not performing up to the level we are capable, and it's frustrating. But we'll keep working and look for better things tomorrow."
