Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 to No. 15 Old Dominion

ATLANTA--The Georgia State men's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 match to No. 15-ranked Old Dominion on Wednesday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Georgia State (4-11-0, 1-7-0) next takes on James Madison on Sunday at 1 p.m. before returning home for two matches to close its regular season. The Panthers take on George Mason next Wednesday at the GSU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. before closing the regular season on Sunday, Nov .4 against Stetson. GSU will honor its eight seniors as part of its Senior Day ceremonies prior to the match.

The GSU offense could not muster up the game-tying goal after conceding a score at the 32:45 mark. Freshman William Mellors-Blair led GSU with five shots including one on goal. Senior goalkeeper Vincent Foermer finished two saves shy of a career high as he stopped eight shots.

Junior Jamal Keene narrowly missed out on a fantastic goal with time ticking away in the 72nd minute. Keene tracked down a high rebound that caromed off a Old Dominion defender after Mellors-Blair struck a long-range shot. Keene took the ball in the air with a right-footed rocket labeled for just inside the left post. ODU senior goalkeeper Victor Francoz dove to his right to make the finger tip save and stave off the scoring chance.

Francoz finished the match with four saves to earn the win. Monarchs (10-2-2, 4-2-2) senior midfielder Chris Harmon scored the lone goal of the match when he fired in a right-footed strike from straight on from 24 yards out. ODU junior Tim Hopkinson assisted on Harmon's goal.

Georgia State, led by third-year head coach Brett Surrency, is 2-6 all time against James Madison. GSU last played JMU in Harrisonburg, Va., in 2010 and it won the match 1-0 in overtime. Visit the men's soccer page on GeorgiaStateSports.com for a preview of Sunday's match.
