19 Days To Kickoff:  SPIRIT TEAMS READY TO PERFORM

Georgia State's encore football season kicks off on Friday Night Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. under the bright lights of the Georgia Dome.

The Panthers Spirit Teams were recently selected after rigorous tryouts and competition and now they are training and practicing their new routines.

GSU has a co-ed cheer team, an all-ladies cheer team and a dance squad.

Darryl Lyons, the head Cheerleading Coach and Spirit Squad Coordinator, selected 49 GSU students for this year's teams. Lyons, a veteran of 18 years of cheerleading, knows his GSU teams will be ready because they are working hard in their practices. Call 404-413-4019 for information about the teams and tryouts.

The Spirit Teams compete in regional and national competition themselves. In April in Daytona Beach, the team was judged 10th in the nation in NCA competition in their group. In July, the teams competed at the National Spirit Camp at Alabama with the co-ed team earning and first and second trophy and the all-girl team a second place trophy.
