ATLANTA — In a surprise announcement at the Golden Panther Awards on Monday evening, Dave and Carol Cohen were inducted into the Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame, recognizing more than four decades of extraordinary service and impact on the university community.
For over 40 years, the Cohens have played a transformative role in shaping the experience of Georgia State student-athletes, fans and staff. Through their leadership, passion and commitment, they have elevated the department both on the air and behind the scenes, leaving a legacy defined by service, innovation and unwavering support.
Carol Cohen has dedicated her career to fostering student success, building an environment where students don't just enroll, but thrive. As Director of the University Advisement Center, she revolutionized advising through proactive leadership, implementing mandatory freshman advising and systems to track academic progress to ensure no student is overlooked.
Her impact at Georgia State began in athletics, where she launched the department's first academic support program for student-athletes in 1990. She went on to serve as Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator, championing all 16 programs while consistently advocating for the holistic success of student-athletes both in the classroom and in competition.
Dave Cohen, widely known as the voice of the Panthers, has served Georgia State Athletics for more than four decades as a play-by-play announcer and broadcast coordinator. He has called countless memorable moments across football, men's basketball and baseball, while also guiding the department's broadcast evolution from traditional radio to modern digital platforms.
A trusted and familiar voice in Atlanta, Cohen has continued to connect fans to Panther athletics through ESPN+ and the Panther Insider Podcast. His excellence in broadcasting has earned him numerous honors, including the prestigious Sparks Award and induction into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, solidifying his place as a cornerstone of Georgia State Athletics history.
