Lorentzen Improves During Day Two of NCAA Regional

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Georgia State women's golfer Charlotte Lorentzen saw improvement during the second round of stroke play at the 2011 NCAA East Regional, carding 4-over 76 on the par 72, 6,271-yard LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Friday.

The Soroe, Denmark native shot 78 Thursday during the opening round to finish in a tie for 85th place. Lorentzen bettered her first score by two strokes on day two to move up five spots in the standings to claim a portion of 80th place out of the 126 participants.

Lorentzen started on the back nine, posting a bogey on her first hole but bouncing back with a birdie on the par-three 12th. The junior collected one more bogey on the par-five 14th to go out in 37 (+1). Lorentzen dropped three bogeys on the front side to come in with 39 (+3).

As GSU's Student-Athlete of the Year, Lorentzen has continually displayed impressive performances throughout the past season, making her a worthy candidate to compete for a spot at the NCAA National Championship. She has garnered three top-5 finishes, as well as three CAA Golfer of the Week accolades. Her most notable accomplishment of the year came against a star-studded field at the 2011 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational when she fired a career-best and record-setting 64.

To advance to the NCAA Championship, Lorentzen must finish as one of the top two individuals not on a qualifying team. The top eight schools in the 24-team field advance from the regional to the championship finals held in Bryan, Texas May 18-21.

Heading into the final round, Alabama's Stephanie Meadow holds the overall lead after posting 71-67--138 (-6) through 36 holes. Caroline Powers of Michigan State trails the lead by two strokes at 4-under par. California's Daniela Holmqvist and Florida State's Jessica Negron sit in a tie for third place at 2-under.

Lorentzen concludes competition at the 2011 NCAA East Regional Saturday with an 8:55 a.m. tee time off the 10th tee. She will be paired with Leigh Whittaker of College of Charleston and Maria Ronderos of Miami.
