Lorentzen Wraps Up Play at Worlds

Lorentzen 3rd, Panthers 13th at Gator Invitational

Gainesville, Fla - Paced by junior Charlotte Lorentzen's share of third place in the individual competition, the Georgia State women's golf team shot a final round 326 to finish in 13th place in the 17-team field that contained nine teams ranked in the top 50 at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational Monday.

During the two-day event played at the par 70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course, the Panthers compiled a total team score of 928 (+88), including a second-round 294, to finish one spot ahead of CAA rival James Madison.

Lorentzen led the Panthers during the final round, firing an 8-over 78. Despite her remarkable second-round 64, the Soroe, Denmark native fell two spots in the standings to finish in a four-way tie for third place with Emma de Groot (Chattanooga), Emily Tubert (Arkansas) and Jessica Wallace (Colorado), all who finished the tournament at 216 (+6). Lorentzen's share of third place represents her sixth career top five showing.

Reigning CAA Golfer of the Week Charlotte Guilleux landed a birdie on the second-to-last hole to card an 82 (+12) during the final day of competition. She finished with a total score of 231 (+21) and a share of 43rd place.

After shooting the Panthers' second-best score during the second round, freshman Laura Sanchez struggled through the third round shooting an 84 (+14). She finished in a tie for 67th place and a total score of 231 (+28).

Freshman Solveig Helgesen and redshirt-junior Cherishton Brett both carded an 83 (+13) in the final round to finish in 83rd and 87th, respectively.

In individual competition, Hannah Thomson of Florida State bookended the tournament with a pair of 1-under 69's to earn medalist honors and finish at even par. Ohio State's Vicky Villanueva hung onto the runner-up spot, with a final round 2-over 72 to finish at 1-over par. Lorentzen, de Groot, Tubert and Wallace shared the bronze with a final score 216 (+6).

Host Florida remained at the top of the leader board with a final round 293 to claim the title of the 2011 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational for the first time since 2008 with a final score of 865 (+25). The Gators' in-state foe Florida State took second place, matching its second-round score of 294 to finish with a total of 883 (+43). Ohio State jumped from seventh place to finish in the third slot at 895 (+55) followed by Colorado (896) and No. 22 Arkansas (899) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Georgia State will take one weekend off from competition before hosting the 18th annual John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate March 21-22 at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
