Valdosta, Ga. - Georgia State women's golfer Charlotte Guilleux stands in a three-way tie for the lead in the Kinderlou Forest Challenge with 18 holes to play. The junior fired a second-round 71 to help the Panthers rise two spots on the leader board to finish day two in sixth place at the par-73, 6,359-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
Georgia State fired a 307 (+15) to jump up two places and take sole possession of sixth place in the 14-team field. The Panthers enter the final round four spots above No. 10 Georgia, with a total score of 616 (+32).
"I am thrilled with the performance today," said head coach Cathy Mant. "We played in some pretty strong winds today, but they hung in there and comparatively played pretty well. Overall, it was a really good second round. We'll see if we can continue to move up the board and finish even better tomorrow. I'm looking forward to having a great final round and finishing strong."
A key to the Panthers' ascension on the leader board was Guilleux's season-best 2-under 71. Junior Charlotte Lorentzen matched her first round 2-over 75 to combine for a total 150 (+4) entering the final 18 holes. Despite her consistency, the Soroe, Denmark native fell one spot to finish day two in a tie for 10th place.
Freshman Laura Sanchez completed the second round with a share of 31st place, shooting a 7-over 80. Combined with her 76 (+3) from the first round, Sanchez enters day three with a total score of 156 (+10).
Freshman Solveig Helgesen bettered her opening-round score by two strokes, firing an 8-over 81 to finish with a portion of 68th place. Redshirt-junior Cherishton Brett also improved upon her score from the first round, shooting an 88 (+15).
Coastal Carolina held onto the top spot throughout the second round with a team score of 5-over 297. The Chanticleers have a six-stroke lead going into the final day of competition with a two-round total of 600 (+16). Shooting a 9-over 301 on the day, Chattanooga stands in a tie for second-place with Florida State, who fired a second-round 300 (+8). Trailing behind the top three are East Carolina (611), Augusta State (613) and Georgia State (616).
Behind the trio at the top in individual competition is Brittany Henderson of Coastal Carolina in fourth place with a 1-over 147. Chattanooga's Yushira Budhram and Emma de Groot share fifth place at 2-over 148.
