Panthers Wrap Up Play at UCF Challenge

Sorrento, Fla. - The Georgia State women's golf team finished in 16th place at the UCF Challenge on Tuesday afternoon. After opening with a 299, the Panthers matched their second-round 315 on the final day of competition to finish with a team-combined score of 929 at the par 72, 6,319 yard Red Tail Golf Club.

Junior Charlotte Lorentzen was the Panthers' top individual, firing a 4-over 76 in the third round to finish with a share of 36th place and a total score of 225 (+9).

Junior Charlotte Guilleux registered just one more stroke than Lorentzen carding a 5-over 77 in the last round. Guilleux was the only Panther to rise in the rankings in the third round as she finished tied for 54th place with a final score of 231 (+15).

Freshman Laura Sanchez registered Georgia State's only birdie of the day on the 12th hole on her way to finishing with a share of 69th place. The Bogota, Colombia native shot a 10-over 82 on day three to finish with 236 (+20).

Freshman Solveig Helgesen fired an 8-over 80 during the tournament's final day of competition to finish with 237 (+21). Rounding out Georgia State's line-up, redshirt-junior Cherishton Brett shot 87 during the third round.

Coastal Carolina held onto its top spot from the second round to finish in first place with a final combined score of 3-over 867. No. 14 Tulane rose one spot on the leader board to claim the runner-up position with a total score of 289 (+4). Firing a 2-under par 286 on the day, No. 37 Minnesota jumped from fifth place to claim the bronze with a final score of 869 (+5).

In individual competition, Kentucky's Ashleigh Albrecht and Minnesota's Teresa Puga were declared co-medalists after a two-hole playoff, both finishing at 8-under 208. Albrecht shot an even 72 while Puga's 6-under 66 helped her jump from ninth place to claim a portion of first place. Ashley McKenney of Tulane held onto third place while the leader from day two, Coastal Carolina's Jessica Alexander, dropped to fourth place marking the first time in the tournament's five-year history that the individual medalist did not hail from the winning team.

The Georgia State women's golf team will return to the links Feb. 27-March 1 at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge in Valdosta, Ga., hosted by fellow Georgia institution Kennesaw State.
